Welcome to Alcarinquë
Mae govannon! Welcome to my info source about all the women characters in Tolkien lore, primarily from his works The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. I have attempted to list every female mentioned and provided as much info as I could find on her in hope to show people that Tolkien's works have great female characters. Some, like Éowyn, Arwen, Lúthien, Elwing and Galadriel, play important roles in the stories. Others are lesser known but nonetheless have interesting stories of their own.
The characters are organized by book and race, and also in alphabetical order according to name. The red-bolded words have additional info if you scroll over it. Like this. If you have any questions or comments or feel I have some info wrong, feel free to contact me. Hannon le mellon nîn and enjoy the site! ~Ithúviel
The name Alcarinquë is the Quenya (elvish) word for 'the glorious' and was the name of the brightest star in the sky. The layout features Éowyn at Meduseld. Artwork by M.W. Kaluta.
Last Update: Nov. 19, 2007 » I'm working with the Italian site Voice of Edoras to write articles on female Tolkien characters. More info soon!
