The Lord of the Rings

Introduction »
Here are the stories of those who lived during the Third Age in Middle-Earth, as told in The Lord of the Rings. The peoples involved included Hobbits, the small folk of the Shire; the Elves, who in this time were mainly of mixed Sindar and Silvan blood although the House of Elrond was also Half-elven. The Humans were those of Dol Amroth, Gondor, and the Rangers of the North, all descendant from the Numenoreans; and the Rohirrim, descendant from the Northmen. Also there were other creatures and beings inhabiting Middle-earth whose origins were from ancient times.

All of the dates are given in the years of the Third Age (TA), except for the Hobbits, which is in Shire Reckoning (SR). For year reference, the War of the Ring took place during the years 3018-3019 TA. Frodo, Bilbo, Gandalf, Galadriel, and Elrond leave Middle-earth in 3021 (1421 SR), which marks the start of the Fourth Age.
